Our new Internet site for the Gift Haus will initially focus on presenting items related to the German speaking immigrants (the German, Swiss and some German dialect-speaking Alsatians and Lorrainers), and the unique culture that developed, locally known as the Pennsylvania Dutch. Central to much of this are the "Hex " designs, which are circular geometric patterns with linages back 6000 years to Neolithic Man, reappearing in 2000-1000BC civilizations and again Roman, Etruscan & other more recent ones.  The Pennsylvania "Dutch" started using these basic symbols to decorate their beloved barns shortly after the 1830s when farmers began to paint their barns.
